This is a prototype. It is still under development, and it may be unstable sometimes (current issues).

[edit] Introduction

BOWiki is a collaborative editor for biomedical knowledge, gene functions and annotations; hence, it could be considered as a gene function wiki. It will be used to collaboratively edit biomedical knowledge, biological information about genes and the latest scientific results. BOWiki employs a biomedical core ontology and utilizes the Ontology of Functions (OF). It uses the description logic reasoner [Pellet] to perform queries and verify the consistency of information as it is entered.

The BOWiki uses the top-level ontology [General Formal Ontology (GFO)]. It uses the concepts and relations defined in the OWL-version of the GFO in order to verify the consistency of semantic information in the BOWiki. For this purpose, every wikipage is typed (with a type from GFO), and each argument of a relation is restricted with a type from GFO. The BOWiki also supports n-ary relations, and allows you to define new relations. Try the Tutorial if you are interested in learning more.

The biological core ontology [GFO-Bio], which is based on the General Formal Ontology, provides the biological types and background knowledge for the BOWiki. For a list of all available types, see the Special:OTypes Special Page.

[edit] Information

About this wiki

This site is running the BOWiki, a semantic extension to Mediawiki. Earlier versions of the BOWiki were based on Semantic MediaWiki v0.4, but almost everything has been replaced in the current version. The BOWiki extension allows users to work with n-ary Relations for editing, displaying, and searching. In the database the relations are stored as suggested by the W3C.

This site is a demo of our prototype.
